Company Information

AMERICAN CONTRACTORS INSURANCE GROUP LTD. along with our subsidiaries (together referred to as “ACIG”) writes insurance policies and provides risk management, claims, quality, and safety services to our construction industry Members.

Business was commenced in 1981 under the name of “American Risk Transfer Insurance Co. Ltd.” formed by a select group of large U.S. contractors with the following mission:

"Saving lives, preventing injuries, and reducing the overall cost of risk for our Members."

ACIG was gradually transformed as it required less fronting and reinsurance support from the conventional insurance marketplace. Today, we are a direct writer of general liability, automobile liability, and workers compensation insurance. We also underwrite Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs (CCIPs), Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI), and deductible reimbursement policies for high-deductible insurance policies such as builders risk. Through our Risk Purchasing Group we provide a high-limit group CPPI Program and a high-limit group Cyber Program. Today we continue to innovate and explore other insurance and risk-related services focused on the construction industry.

This organizational chart outlines the relationship of the insurance entities.

ACIG is rated “A” (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company. We has a Financial Size Category of “VIII” ($100-$250 million of policyholders’ surplus) and an outlook of "Stable."
